Hey there!
I’m Caledonia, the photographer behind River Songs Photos. Photography has been a lifelong passion of mine, beginning with my love affair with nature and my captivating childhood in the Appalachian Mountains. I am a poet, and am enamored with the poetry that is life itself – when I see people, I see the poetry of their lives, too. As a romantic – Weddings, Elopements, Engagements, Couples Sessions, Maternity and Newborns are a few of my favorite subjects. I enjoy working closely with each of my clients to capture memories that will last a lifetime. We talk, we laugh. We create. This is what I love most about photography; capturing the intimate moments in a persons life. Their laughter, their stories, and their dreams. Many of our shoots are done in the great outdoors; this adds a personal element to my work that reflects my love of this magical planet.
River Songs Photos
The story of our brand…
Photography has been a lifelong love of mine, but in 2021, I decided to take my passion for photography and bring it to the public. I placed among 2 other winners in PBS's Moments in Time Photo contest, and was interviewed by Blue Ridge PBS for the winning photo. Shortly thereafter, my husband Jay and I began meeting with our very first public clients, and the journey of River Songs Photos truly began.
We started simply; 1 camera, 1 photographer, 1 assistant. We have grown exponentially during this time - 3 cameras for each shoot, with Jay graduating quickly from Assistant to Second Shooter. We work with a variety of light manipulation techniques and are in the process of building a full Client Closet and portable changing room.
As romantics, our focus is strongly on Weddings, Elopements, and Couples sessions in general. We also enjoy Maternity photography, creative sessions, and portrait sessions! We are among the most frequently recommended Grad Photographers for Virginia Tech. As proud Hokies, that is truly an honor and a joy for us.
We focus on what’s real; sheer joy, genuine laughter. Tears of happiness, and reflection. Our photography style is emotive, raw, and honest.
When we aren't working with Clients, we enjoy spending time with our family and fur babies. We have 4 sweet dogs and are playful, creative people in our day to day. You'll typically find either of us; reading, writing, crafting, cooking, exploring the outdoors, drawing, or playing together.
When I have free time with my camera, I often enjoy shooting landscape, plant, and wildlife photos. Jay is often behind the scenes capturing candid photos of me working, or filming clips for me to edit together for our social media.
